Karen is the owner and CEO of Healthy Homes Family Services Inc. and is a clinical social worker licensed in both Iowa and Nebraska. She has bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She is currently working on a Doctorate degree in Social Work at Walden University. Karen has decades of experience working with children and families, including a background in child welfare services, law enforcement, and extensive experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment with teens and families. She specializes in working with family issues, behavior disorders, and couples therapy. Karen also supervises students in training and provides in-service training and presentations to area business and companies on various mental health topics. Karen is a Military Family Life Consultant providing emotional support to military members and their families and is an adjunct instructor for secondary education in social work. Karen is married and is the proud parent of three children and “Grammy” to 3 adorable grandsons.
Tracy Van Zee grew up in southwest Iowa and has a Masters of Arts in Psychology from University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. She has a background in the mental health casework field and worked with a variety of populations including seniors, community corrections, and families. Tracy is an avid outdoors enthusiast and has an interest in nature-based therapy. As a BHIS provider, she looks forward to working with families on skill-building techniques and hopes to encourage a nature connection whenever possible. She and her husband enjoy camping, hiking, bird watching, and traveling with their two small children. Tracy is also a passionate Zumba instructor and loves a good book!
Meg obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Counseling Psychology. She is currently working on a doctorate degree in Psychology. She has 30 years of experience counseling children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. For many of those 30 years, Meg has worked with children, age 3 to 10, utilizing play therapy to help them heal from abuse and neglect, PTSD, domestic violence, anxiety and depression. In addition, she has experience with helping couples in conflict or those who simply want to increase satisfaction in their relationships. Assisting parents and their children improve communication and understanding is another passion for Meg. Meg’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, combining cognitive-behavioral, reality therapy, solution-focused counseling and EMDR. While working in an Employee Assistance Program for eight years, Meg obtained a certification as an EAP professional. Meg is the proud mother of young adult daughter. She loves nature, cycling, movies, and spending time with her daughter and friends.
Josh is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he obtained a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health. He is also a graduate of Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Psychology degree. He is an outpatient therapist, seeing clients at both the Avoca and Red Oak locations. He also works with BHIS clients in the surrounding areas. Josh’s therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He has experience working alongside individuals, couples, and families. He has helped people experience positive growth in their lives by helping them overcome the difficulties in their own lives. Josh enjoys running, hiking, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
Laurine Price has a Bachelor of Arts in Therapeutic Recreation and Art. She currently attends Bellevue University in pursuit of a Master’s in Clinical Counseling. Laurine is a BHIS provider with Healthy Homes Family Services. She has many years’ experience working with children and families through Boy’s Town, St. Joseph Center for Mental Health, Cass County Memorial Hospital Behavior Health Unit, Laurine’s House (a QRS rated child development home), and Green Hills Area Education Agency – Early Access Program.

Casie has her Master’s Degree in Human Services – Community Counseling from Bellevue University. She has worked in human services for over fifteen years in various settings; residential treatment facilities, group counseling, and in home services. Casie is a licensed therapist and sees children, teenagers, families, and adults for Healthy Homes Family Services at the Grinnell office. She has experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety, self-harm behaviors, gender identity issues, LGBT identifying, attachment disorders, self-esteem issues, trauma, fertility issues, and substance abuse/addictions. Casie focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques while using a client-centered approach. She is the Healthy Homes Family Services agency director and member of the management team. Casie has two children (twins) and lives in central Iowa.
Jessica graduated with her Bachelors in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa in 2009 and obtained her Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Walden University in 2012. Jessica has spent the majority of her career working with children, adolescents, and college students. Jessica also has worked with individuals who struggle with substance abuse disorders. Jessica’s areas of interest include issues related to self-esteem, self-harm behaviors, play therapy, depression, anxiety, and gender identity. She uses an integrated approach consisting of client-centered, interpersonal and cognitive behavioral techniques. Jessica’s experience includes in-home therapeutic work, outpatient mental health counseling and outpatient substance abuse counseling.
